A novel design of CTZS/Si tandem solar cell: a numerical approach

Multijunction or tandem solar cells can split the spectrum over several subcells with different bandgaps to convert sunlight into electricity more effectively than single-junction cells. The monolithic design of third generation silicon energy materials is auspicious for photovoltaics. In this paper, simulation-based studies copper zinc tin sulfide/silicon (CZTS/Si) based on CZTS as an upper subcell and a lower absorber layer have been performed using SCAPS-1D. This study aims evaluate cells’ performance fact that both are simulated produce best efficiency recorded at its bandgap. simulation optimization Si were initially fit state-of-the-art records 11.65% 18.7%, respectively. Further, evaluated thicknesses configuration after validation. Also, obtain same current structure, subcell's investigated ranged from 0.1~1 µm while keeping thickness 80 µm. Thus, optimized 0.191 transmitted was obtained gave 10.6% 11.9%, maximum ~ 23 enhancing open circuit voltage 1.4 V.
